For over a decade I have had a front-row seat to the global climate negotiations: camera in hand, watching delegates debate, activists demonstrate, and world leaders arrive and depart. 

Finding Common Ground is a photography exhibition I put together with Stephan Ernest in 2025 exploring the multilateral process at the heart of global climate diplomacy. Produced in partnership with UN Climate Change and the City of Bonn, it draws on over a decade of documentary photography from inside the Bonn climate negotiations: the sessions, the huddles, the quiet corridors, and the human moments in between, to offer a rare glimpse into how international climate policy is actually made.

The exhibition moves through the themes that define the multilateral process: leadership, diversity and inclusion, consultation, transparency, civil society activism, decision-making, and the beauty of our common humanity. Together, these images make the case that the negotiations are not simply a meeting of governments, they are a deeply human endeavour, driven by individuals working across profound differences toward something shared.

Finding Common Ground was created at a moment when global cooperation itself is under enormous pressure. It is, in part, a love letter to multilateralism, a reminder, told through images, that the process is imperfect but irreplaceable, and that when trust is built and common ground is found, progress becomes possible.
